Alentejo

Alentejo blankets once shielded shepherds from the cold.
Woven by hand on traditional looms, their intricate patterns reflect Arabic influences and the colours of the Alentejo landscape. Today, they are used as bedspreads and have inspired contemporary fashion and home décor.

At Évora’s Museum of Craft and Design (MADE), you can find antique examples, while a visit to the Fábrica Alentejana de Lanifícios (Fabricaal) allows you to witness the art of weaving in action and support the skilled artisans keeping this tradition alive.
